"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." - C.S. Lewis

"Never part with your dreams. When they're gone, you might still exist, but you cease to live." - unknown

When you are ready to start your own website or blog and add some affiliate marketing links to it, there are a few things that you should know.

#1. Affiliate marketing is not for everyone.

It is not for anyone that is looking to make money fast, nor is it for the impatient. In order to be successful with affiliate marketing, you will need patience and determination. When you put those two together, there is no stopping you or what you can do with your affiliate marketing business.

#2. Affiliate marketing can be done a few different ways.

It can be done through email, newsletters, websites, or blogs. Finding your target audience, and catching them with good content is what it is all about. You will need to know where they go and what they are looking for. Try starting out with message boards first. Make sure that the message board is relevant to your market. If you have a website that pertains to a market that has to do with gardening, you will not want to be visiting a message board that is all about pregnancy. Once you have found a busy message board that will allow you to include your link to your website in the signature of your posts, you are in business.

Start off by posting and chatting, and when someone asks a question that you know the answer to, answer it. This will peak their interest and before you know it, they will be clicking on the link in your signature and checking out your site. While doing this can be quite time consuming, it will pay off in the long run. You can not go wrong when you gain the other members trust.

#3. Write articles targeting your chosen market.

Writing articles on the market that you are promoting and then submitting them to article directories or ezines is a great way to get the most from your affiliate links and programs that you are a part of. Be sure that you include a link to your website in the authors resource box in the articles that you are submitting. Doing so will get your site more traffic. You do not want to submit the same articles that you have on your site to these directories. You will want different variations of your articles to be used in the directories.

#4. Affiliate marketing is something that takes work.

The worst thing you can do is set up your site and let it go. You have to work on it consistently to see a good amount of revenue come from it. Make sure that you are doing everything that you can to get visitors to your site. Use the best free tools that there are available to you, and only pay for the ones that really work and that you can afford.

The winner is...Starting Fresh!

After spending several days researching, reading posts and having discussions with various people, I have come to a decision regarding moving this blog over to Wordpress.

OptiNiche's has some great advice in this post From Blogger to WordPress: Import or Start Fresh? and it was the deciding factor for me.

So, in order to avoid any duplicate content penalties, losing all backlinks, my alexa, technorati, and page rank, here is what I will be doing:

Step 1. I am leaving this blog here and have put it on a custom domain - http://www.makemoneyonlinewithejcooksey.com/ (this has been done)

Step 2. Start the new Wordpress blog. Add posts and make sure everything is working correctly.

Step 3. Slowing begin transitioning over to the new Wordpress blog by updating this blog every few days with summaries from the blog entries on my new blog.

Also, if you are signed up to my RSS feed or have a link to this blog on your site, please don't forget to update it with this blogs new url: http://www.makemoneyonlinewithejcooksey.com/

Presented By: EJ Cooksey | 1/20/2008 09:57:00 PM

Okay folks, I have finally got the nerve up to try and move this blog over to Wordpress on my own domain name "ejcooksey.com". I have never done this before, but from what I have been reading it is suppose to be very easy to do...we shall see.

If you don't hear from me within a day or two, send out a search party as I may be lost in cyberspace!

Should I import my content from here or just start fresh...tough decision...this blog has a PR3, plus a good Alexa and Tecnorati ranking, not to mention all of the backlinks. What to do?
If you have any tips or suggestions, please let me know about them...I could use all the help I can get.

Wish Me Luck!

How To Create a Workspace That Motivates

Presented By: EJ Cooksey | 1/19/2008 10:04:00 PM

Step 1. Determine what motivates you.

Are you motivated by money? Sales numbers? Praise? What about success quotes or inspirational words? Are you motivated to save enough money to take your family on that amazing vacation you’ve been dreaming about or are you looking to purchase a luxury item? Determine what motivates you first and foremost. You can accomplish this by asking yourself a few questions.

What do you like best about your job?
What aspect of your business fills you with the most joy?
What aspects of your life fill you with the most joy?
What are your goals? Why are they your goals?

Step 2. Make your workspace attractive to you.

For some this may mean bright colors and clean lines. Other people prefer a more Zen-like feel and choose neutral colors and minimal embellishments. What is your style? Take it and bring it into your workspace.

Step 3. Make your workspace personal.

If you’re inspired by Benjamin Franklin success quotes “Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.” Then post them. Hang pictures of your family or calming scenes. If you’re saving for a vacation, perhaps a picture of that location posted in your workspace will help motivate you on those difficult days. Motivated by money, post your current sales and your sales goals where you can see them at all times.

Step 4. Reduce clutter.

Organize, organize, organize. Clutter is a time stealer. If you know where everything is, and everything has a place – off of your desktop – then you’re headed in the right direction. De clutter your desktop by investing in a file cabinet or two. De clutter your computer desktop by organizing your work into files and storing them in larger files. For example you could have a business folder and within that large folder you could have client folder or project folder. Each sub folder would then have all of the documents and relevant files stored right there for easy access.

Step 5. Add music, scents, and plants.

Make your workplace as pleasing as possible. You don’t want it to be so relaxing that it puts you to sleep but you do want to feel inspired to work.

Step 6. An ergonomically designed workspace is a productive one.

Make sure your desk, desk chair, and computer keyboard are all adjusted to be comfortable for you. You can’t get much done if your back is killing you from a poorly designed chair or you’re getting carpal tunnel from a misplaced keyboard. Take the time to invest in comfortable office furniture – your business, body, and bottom line will reward you for the efforts.

Offering Bonuses...

Presented By: EJ Cooksey | 1/18/2008 03:27:00 PM

...Can Increase Your Affiliate Commissions!

One way to always stand out from your competition is to offer a little bit extra, to do things a little bit better and just to plain old give more. People will appreciate it and it’s a great way to build a successful business.

As an affiliate marketer it’s a good idea to differentiate yourself from your competition. A good way to do this is by offering bonuses or in some cases a discount for people that purchase through your affiliate link. This is an especially good strategy when dealing with high-end products, which are quite pricey to purchase.

For example, a very well known internet marketer launches his latest and most anticipated course on “How to Get More Traffic to your Website.” Being a well-known guru, this marketer already has a small army of affiliates lined up and waiting for launch date to simultaneously shoot out a series of emails to their list promoting this most anticipated product… ouch, how do you compete with that?

Well, here’s a little strategy that some very top super affiliates use – give them a little bit extra.

Instead of just sending another email promoting this new product, take the time to set up a special promotion for customers who purchase the product through your link. This can vary depending on the product and your services, but it can be a number of things such as a private tele-class where you teach some of the affiliates your own strategies or tips you’ve learned; or a recorded interview with transcribed notes on a related subject to the product. You can even offer some one-on-one coaching time with you, although be careful with this one as it can get very time consuming, you may want to limit this to the first 5 or first 10 purchases made through your link.

You can also offer a discount to people who purchase through your link. Say you’re promoting a high-ticket item which costs $950 and you’re commissions are 50%, it may be well worth it to give people who purchase through your link a $100 or $150 dollar discount. This is a great incentive for people to buy through you, after all who doesn’t want to save money.

It’s worth it to note, a few programs may not like the use of the above mentioned promotional tactics. It’s always a good idea to do your homework and if in doubt of what is appropriate, you can contact the program manager directly and ask questions.

But always remember, the more time and effort you put into a product you believe in, the better your chances of making more sales with that product. People will see your efforts and think “Wow, he must really believe in this product to do all of this” and if you’re focusing on choosing and promoting the right products then this is probably very true.

Copywriting is the one skill which all online business owners should learn. As an online marketer you communicate through words – if those words aren’t effectively conveying your message, then you’re in for a long and bumpy ride.

Here are a few
copywriting tips to help you get started:

Know your Target Market – Good copywriters know exactly who they’re writing for before starting. They speak directly to ONE person and keep that same person in mind at all times. If you try to reach too many people with your copy you’ll end up missing your target altogether and not reaching anyone at all. Before starting, know exactly who you’re writing your copy for and stick to it.

Headlines that Intrigue – Use clear headlines throughout your copy to guide the reader. Your main headline should be in bold and large letters to grab the reader’s attention. It is often the headline which can either make or break your copy. Use a benefit-focused headline, which explains in powerful detail how you can help solve the customer’s problem. Then use sub-headlines throughout the copy to keep the reader intrigued so they will keep reading.

Don’t use Big Words – Online writing is different to the writing you did in English class. Throw out the text book and forget all those rules your teacher taught you. Online writing is casual and needs to convey emotion and a clear purpose. You need to speak to the person as though you’re sitting down with them and chatting over a coffee… stay away from big words and long adjectives or risk boring (and losing) your prospects!

Be Persuasive – If you love your product that’s great but it’s also a bit biased. Your customers want to hear from other unbiased people who have used your product. Include customer testimonials but not just any testimonial will do, the more information you can include the better. Try to include the person’s full name, city, state, website URL and if possible a picture of that person. The more information your testimonial includes the more persuasive and believable.

It’s not all about you! – In fact, it’s not about you at all. Effective copywriting is concerned with the needs of the customer. The writer doesn’t really matter...Of course, you may need to add a little personal information about yourself in order to gain trust and to explain why your customer should trust you, but even in this case it’s all about what you can do for them. Go through your copy, does it contain a lot of “I’s” then it’s time for a serious re-write. Go back and change most of those “I’s” to “You’s”. Your writing should always be about the customer.

Don’t forget the call – The call to action that is. You must guide your visitors and tell them what you expect them to do. If you want them to click over and purchase your weight loss product, say so, and say so in a clear way which promotes all the benefits of your products “Click here to learn how you can lose those last 10 pounds and keep it off for good” . Be precise in your wording and always include a clear call to action.

and Watch Your Affiliate Sales Improve!

Why give away a free report?

As an affiliate marketer the more you can give your prospects in terms of quality and information, the more you’ll stay on their minds. Giving away a free report is a good way to build your mailing list as well as give something of value to your customers. You’re also establishing yourself as an expert in your chosen field, which will build trust and credibility with your customers.

It’s also thought that when customers download a special report onto their computers it creates a sense of increased value. This report is on their computer and they can access it at any time, whereas an email can simply be deleted. If you go a step further and have a nice cover made for your free special report you will increase the perceived value even further.

So when do you write a free report?

Anytime you can is the answer. Free reports can be written around a product or several products you’re promoting to your target market. For example, if you’re promoting a learn to read phonics program for parents of younger children, then you can write a report which talks about the importance of reading to children, how early reading helps build vocabulary and self esteem and so on. You can add reading statistics about reading improvement by using the phonics system and even include a story or two about children whose reading has improved due to using phonics.

The report shouldn’t read like a sales pitch but instead should focus on providing value to your customers and the information they crave. Throughout the special report you can include your affiliate link to a recommended phonics programs, and perhaps several other affiliate links for similar helpful products. You don’t want too many links and you want to make sure the products you do recommend are all related.

How long should the free report be?

It all depends on the product you’re promoting and the information which needs to be shared. There are some special free reports which are quite long and others shorter. On average 15 to 17 pages is reasonably good, but it all depends on your target market and the information they’re looking for.

Writing a free special report is a great way to promote affiliate products you believe in.
