As if being a mom isn't hard enough, many women have also taken on the role of entrepreneur. This is where the phrase, “mompreneur"
comes from.
It's a tough but generally rewarding lifestyle choice. Moms
can be there for their children and family when they need them. They
can create an online business and generate an income for the family.
However,
sometimes being a mompreneur can seem as if you're standing on the edge
of a cliff. A crisis can hit and depending on your business model,
everything can go wrong at once.
For
example, a mompreneur who suddenly finds that a family member is having
a health crisis may need to drop everything to care for that loved one.
The business goes on the back burner. There is no time for online work
and when the health crisis is over there's little or no business to come
back to.
That's an extreme example but it can happen as I found out
when my mother-in-law became ill and I was offline for almost a year and
a half.
Here are 3 steps that I should have taken to help prepare for any potential crisis.
#1 Have a Backup Person to Help with your Online Business
You
don't have to have a partner or divulge everything about your business
to another person. However, it is helpful if you have a virtual
assistant, friend or family member that can help you. That way, if a
crisis occurs, you can quickly contact them and they can handle any
communications and manage things while you're away.
#2 Network and Build a Community
Another way to help prepare for a potential crisis is to make sure you have connections in your industry.
If
you're a blogger or information marketer, then make connections with
other bloggers and writers in your industry. If you're going to be
unavailable for an extended period of time, you can hire or partner with
a writer so the content continues to flow on your site.
For
example, if you're a professional coach and are unable to meet your
coaching obligations for a period of time, you might be able to offer
your clients a substitute coach while you're away. They don't miss out
on the coaching experience they've paid for and you don't lose clients.
#3 Your Mindset Is Everything
Having
a positive mindset is what will help you not only come through a crisis
personally but also professionally. Being able to stay positive and
focused on your priorities helps you avoid feeling overwhelmed and out
of control.
Before
a crisis happens, make sure to create strong connections with your
niche community. Then you'll be able to quickly make a plan, know what
you can handle and what you cannot, and know who to ask for help.

Tips for Writing a Series of Blog Posts
Many people will find your blog posts through search engines. They'll google their keywords and end up on your blog, reading an article or maybe two. If you've got great longtail keywords it might bring you lots of targeted traffic.
While organic traffic is great, and you want to get as much of it as possible, why not try something that will keep people coming back instead of just hitting your site once and going away? One idea is to write a blog post series. I recommend at least 3 parts to your series, although it's going to depend on what you're blogging about.

How to Start a Blog for Profit
An online presence is important these days for whatever enterprise you engage in. To connect with a wide variety of people there is no bigger forum than the Internet. If you are looking for a way to show off your expertise and also make a little money while doing it, consider starting a blog.
What is a Blog?
A blog is actually an online journal of sorts. With a blog you can upload daily posts about anything that you want. Some people create personal blogs as a way to keep in touch with family members. Pictures, videos and other information are uploaded so your loved ones are current with what is going on with you.

How to Use Blogging as a Tool to Market a Product
Blogging is a great way to connect with your audience and prospects on a different level. Blogs offer you a more personal interaction with your audience. An interaction that lets you ask questions, provide answers and even debate online.
Blogs enable you to offer an opinion, good or bad, and to simply rant or rave about something should you choose to do so. By offering a myriad of communication options unrivaled by other content forms, blogs make it easy to market a product.
Here’s how:
- Reviews. One of the most powerful forms of marketing is to write a simple review as a blog post. This works particularly well if you’re an affiliate marketer because a review of a product comes across as unbiased, as it should, while at the same time demonstrates the benefits of a product. It presells a product or service, which is the primary responsibility of an affiliate marketer. However, you can also ask outside parties, guest bloggers, to review your products or services and then either post their reviews on your website or link to them in a blog post written by you.

Free Your Mind for Business Success
Positive thinking is a very powerful thing. We are not talking about the power of attraction, but the power within you to accept change in its various forms. If you’re a current or future business owner, you must realize the success of your company depends on being able to think positively and embrace and learn from the changes that happen.
Free Your Mind – What Does That Mean Exactly?
When you started your business, there were probably acceptable practices and standards for success. It could be anything from increasing interaction with customers to using a time-tested method for getting the sale.
That is a good place to start. Other entrepreneurs have a lot of helpful advice to contribute to new business owners. Add to that an attitude of choice. Some businesses die from lack of creativity and willingness to change when necessary.
It is true that what goes down will eventually come back up, but can your business wait that long? Living in unpredictable economic times is a call to action on your part.
Open your mind to the possibilities that can keep your business successful and not add you to the heap of the dead and dying.
Get Back to Basics
Maybe it’s time to start over. Go back to your original business plan and marketing strategies. You may have decided on one course of action to get the business started. Now could be the perfect time to niche into a more defined product.
Here are the advantages:
• More targeted marketing strategies
• Higher sales
Previously, you were looking to reach a more diverse group of customers. For every 200, you may have made a sale to at least half of them. With a niche market, you have 200 customers that you know are interested in your type of product and your sales may increase to 150. Is that worth it? Yes!
Your business plan also includes how you will package your product. For those marketing information, this is a great time in business. Article marketing is a mainstay but why limit yourself? Now, you can market your product through video, audio (podcast, CDs) or a combination of both. Expand your product line to include these media outlets and increase your customer base in the process.
They say that success is its own reward, but that’s only true if you are willing to pursue it. When you allow yourself to dream big, the sky is the limit. Sure, sales may be slow when you first implement the new strategies or you’ll have to overcome a learning curve to get started.
Think of the alternative: You won’t grow without the attitude and vision to see beyond where you are now.

Deciding On What To Do?
Making the decision to start a home based business can be pretty easy. Deciding on what to do is the hard part. We have so many options, that the decision can become overwhelming.
Not long ago, home business options were just about limited to direct sales or home daycare. Thanks to technology, home business possibilities are limitless, and new options are popping up everyday.
When trying to decide on a home business, it is important to think about your personality. You know yourself the best, and you know what you are interested in doing and what you are not interested in. You also have natural strengths and talents in some areas. The best possible situation is to find a home business that combines your natural talents with your interests.
Another important thing to factor in is the potential future of the business you choose. For example, if you currently have small children, your natural inclination may be to become a consultant for a direct sales company that sells toys or you may want to start a blog featuring information for mothers of toddlers.
That could be a great business for you right now, but your children will continue to age. Do you still want to be selling toys when your children are in high school? And do you want to keep blogging about the joys of potty training when your kids are off to college?
You don’t want to put a lot of hard work, time, and energy into a business that you are not going to be happy with in a few years. It is better to choose something that YOU really like and enjoy and want to keep doing for the long haul.
Another mistake to avoid is trying to juggle several businesses. When you have too many balls in the air, something is going to fall. For example, you may think you can handle a direct sales business, a blog, and a service based business. But you also have to remember that you have a life and your family and friends will want to see you on occasion!
Instead of going crazy trying to be a jack of all trades, specialize in one type of business. You’ll have much more success long term.
Starting a home business can be a very exciting time. Enjoy the process of figuring out the right type of business for you. Hopefully, the business you choose will be by your side for a very, very long time.
